A small whitewashed traditional Corvo guesthouse on the curved cobbled street of Vila do Corvo, Azores, with a wooden door, a single window with white-painted shutters, basalt stone walls, hydrangeas in a small flower pot beside the entrance, the empty cobbled street stretching into the distance under late afternoon golden light

Where to stay on Corvo

Corvo has fewer than 30 visitor beds total. Almost no visitors stay overnight; the standard pattern is a day trip from Flores. If you do want to stay, the options are limited and book quickly.

Why overnight stays are rare

The island is small enough that everything worth doing fits in a 5-hour ferry day trip. The single restaurant closes by 9pm. The village empties of visitors when the evening ferry leaves and you are essentially alone with the 400 residents. Some travellers find this atmosphere extraordinary; most find a day trip sufficient.

Three groups typically stay overnight: birdwatchers in October (the autumn migration window), travellers stranded by a cancelled return ferry, and a small number of travellers who specifically want the after-dark quiet of a near-empty village.

The options

All options are in Vila do Corvo, the only village. The island has no other settlement.

  • Comodoro Guest House. The island's main guesthouse, 6 rooms above a small restaurant on the village seafront. €70 to €110 per night double, breakfast included. Books months ahead in October.
  • Casa Costa. A small B&B in a restored traditional stone house in the upper village. 3 rooms, €60 to €90 per night.
  • Self-catering rooms. A handful of villagers rent single rooms in their family houses, typically through word-of-mouth or via the local tourist office. €40 to €70 per night, often with shared kitchen. The most authentic option; ask at the tourist office on arrival.

Price ranges by season

Type Low season (Nov to April) Summer (May to September) Birding peak (October)
Guesthouse room €55 to €80 €70 to €110 €85 to €130 (if available)
Family room rental €40 to €60 €50 to €80 €60 to €90 (if available)

Booking tips

  • Book early for October. The birdwatching window pushes all rooms to capacity. International birding clubs reserve up to 6 months ahead.
  • Confirm the ferry pattern. If you are flying into Corvo (one of the 1 to 3 weekly SATA flights from Flores or Faial), the schedule is fixed. If you are taking the ferry, weather cancellations can leave you stranded; this is part of why most visitors day-trip.
  • Winter caution. Several rooms close from November to March. Confirm by email before any winter booking.
  • Day-trippers do not need accommodation. The Lajes das Flores morning ferry plus the evening return covers the Corvo highlights without an overnight. Unless you specifically want the village after dark, the day-trip is the right plan.
